Sawdust Facts
Our furniture and wooden decor are made from trees grown in New England (more specifically, within 50 miles or less of Peterborough, NH), felled individually by hand and leaving barely a trace of disturbance on the forest floor. They are then milled into lumber by the woodworker himself, and air-dried for years, if not decades. Properly air-dried lumber preserves the natural beauty of the grain and wood color. Some trees cut by others have been acquired through word of mouth - for instance when a mature walnut was taken down for a planned solar array. It doesn’t get any more sustainable than that. Recycled lumber is occasionally repurposed, such as an antique, orphaned mahogany table leaf, re-shaped as the top of a tripod table.
Sawdust swept from the floor ignites the fires in our woodstove and nourishes our gardens and woodlot.
